I feel like Greg’s reaction isn’t only to the fact that they can fuse but also a recognition that Connie and Steven are actually really close. It’s hard for any parent to realize that their child isn’t going to be a child much longer. It’s almost like walking in on them kissing.

Help Cortez Attend Activists Mobilizing for Power in PDX

Greetings All!

My name is Cortez. Some of you may know me personally, and some of you may know me through tumblr. I’m a fat, Southern, Black, Queer, Non Binary, Femme feminist organizer and “meda maven”. Still not quite sure what that last one means. I organize around issues of queer liberation, racial justice, and reproductive justice, to keep it short, under this radical vision that we all have a fundamental right to claim our humanity and do as we damn well please. I’ve had the honor and pleasure of doing liberatory work with a lot of folks in a lot of different ways. Today, I’m asking for your help.

I’m currently fundraising and plotting to attend the Western States Center Activists Mobilizing for Power conference in Portland, Oregon. The Western States Center describes AMP as “a unique three-day training and networking conference for community-based leaders, staff, and volunteers of groups organizing for justice. AMP participants represent a spectrum of experiences and backgrounds. They are diverse with respect to race, geography, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and skill level. Trainers, drawn from around the region and beyond, are among the most knowledgeable in their areas.”

That’s a lot.

And that shit’s expensive, y’all. Just one day of workshops is $92 and my broke ass is trying to chill in this dancery for three days.

On the bright side, I’ve been awarded a scholarship of $108.3 to cover what comes out to be $914 of expenses, which include registration, lodging, flight, and meals outside the conference. My goal amount is an even $1000. Oh, and I need to sort this by June 26th as that is the registration deadline to receive my scholarship.

And that’s that.

A lot is happening in the world and community resources can often feel and be scarce, but I thank you so much for reading all of this and for any help you can provide in getting me to my goal! Your generosity, even in the form of sharing this page, is much appreciated!
