Called ‘The biggest ongoing disaster in the United States you haven’t heard of’ by Daily Kos, this is something that is actually happening, within an hour’s driving distance of where I live. There is a sinkhole in Bayou Corne that has been severely agitated by the activities of fossil fuel magnate Texas Brine, operating with “supervision” of the Jindal administration.
The sinkhole has been active for a year at this point. How long did it take Jindal to visit the site? Seven months. This went on for seven months before our right-wing governor, a man so insane he claims to have assisted in the exorcism of a demon, could deign to visit, because “only” 350 people live there, and, being poor, they have nothing to offer him. In fact, if you read that article, you may have noticed this:
Jindal’s visit comes 10 days after California based environmentalist Erin Brockovich visited residents at Bayou Corne with California based attorney Tom Girardi. Girardi has offered his legal services to any resident who decides to take further action against Texas Brine and all parties responsible for their troubles over the past seven months.
Yep, you read that correctly. Jindal didn’t give a single fuck about the 350 people living over a sinkhole that threatens to swallow them whole until an out-of-state lawyer appeared to assist them in getting help and reparations for their losses.
Spread the word. Please.
ETA: 120 notes in six hours! Thank you so much, everyone who’s sharing and liking this. Please continue to get the word out. It is appreciated in ways you cannot imagine.

Super junky
Lemme just talk about Targets diversity and acceptance. A black man. A Hispanic man. A white child. A two-man relationship raising a healthy baby boy with love. I’m so glad that target doesn’t give a fuck about social “norms” and came to the game with no fucks about who it offends or if they lose business. Its beautiful. It’s different. Its brilliant. I’m all for it. My boyfriend works for target and they’re a really good.company to their employees too. Yay target!
Target is like Walmart but with good morals
🙌🙌
what i like about target is that a few years ago when they got in trouble with the LGBT+ community for donating to conservative politicians, instead of just apologizing they actually hired a whole new team to oversee their political donations. additionally, they began to fully come out in support of the LGBT+ community and started making very public campaigns for LGBT+ rights and whatnot. instead of doing what many people do and weakly apologize, they fully acknowledged they were being problematic and wholeheartedly began to become better
tumblr is so US-centric i’m afraid the majority of people on tumblr are going to stop fighting for LGBT rights now that same-sex marriage is legal in the US
please, please, please, don’t forget that this is NOT the end of our fight, and while the same-sex marriage may be legal in the US, there are still hundreds of countries where it isn’t legal (mine included) – and what’s worse than that – there are still countries where homosexuality is considered a disease/punishable by death. PLEASE don’t forget about that.
Crying helps me slow down and obsess over the weight of life’s problems.
