mainstream media does not allow women the full spectrum of emotion. it does not allow women to wear practical clothing. it does not allow women to be muscular/tough/brooding/bitter/protective/fierce in the way men are allowed.
and it doesn’t allow men the full spectrum of emotion, either. it doesn’t allow men to take pride in personal ornamentation. it doesn’t allow men to be gentle/kind/supportive/affectionate/in need of rescuing.
no one is allowed to be truly human.
and I think we need to really acknowledge the way in which that fucks us all up.
I’m re-watching steven universe with two of my sisters, and as we are watching “house guest” I joke about how greg has fixed his broken leg with duct tape and a ruler instead of going to the hospital
but then my sister remarks that it’s taking place in a country heavily based on the us and that he’s too poor to afford it

greg is really poor. he’s living in his van, all his clothes look outworn (just look at his outfit in “fusion cuisine” when eating at a restaurant with connie’s parents) plus he’s the one who build steven and the gem’s house ALL BY HIMSELF (”extended theme song”). and if that wasn’t enough, he’s the one paying for both his own, his son’s AND the gems’ expenses (confirmed by matt burnett)
but greg still finds money to treat his son, who not only gets the food and clothes he needs, but also has a tv, many different games and movies plus he’s even taken on a mini trip to the keystone motel (which is also for greg to buy cheaper car wash brushes, all in episode “keystone motel”). hell, he’s even trying to make some extra cash by offering guitar lessons (”shirt club”)…
all in all, greg’s financial situation is not the best. but he won’t let that affect his son, steven, whom he loves beyond everything else. greg just wants steven to be able to be a happy, carefree child, even if it means that he will have to live in his van and fix his broken leg with duct tape. greg is an amazing dad

You just go for it! Take it at your own pace and try your best to not be impatient with yourself! Your level and speed of growth might be faster/slower than someone else’s, so focus on your own path and let the journey take you to amazing places and opportunities! There’s obvs going to be obstacles in the way of what you want to do, but the greater the accomplishment requires even greater challenges, though the real question is if you’re willing to take the plunge and try anyways?

LISTEN UP YALLS
•If you say “meh” high pitched it would mean “help”. Kittens use it a lot to get their mother’s attention before they open their eyes.
•If you do a tongue roll with a sharp “reah” at the end it would mean “come here”. My sister and I use it to call upon stray cats.
•body language is hard to describe. You usually need a tired and relaxed look to seem calm and purrsuasive (lol).
•tongue rolls with a slightly closed mouth can resemble purring in a way that helps attract cats.
•what the person used, or said, was a “help” and “I love you”. The cats body language dictates that it is surprised that a human could use this ability.
•we can’t fully communicate without tails and whiskers.
