for real though we need to talk more about how the gems have lived through 6000 years of earth’s history:
– did the gems ever hang out in classical greece? they’re literally alien rock warriors, why couldn’t the myths of antiquity exist in this universe? What if amethyst, being dionysus’ gemstone, took some time off to be a maenad for a while?
– what about rome? Did garnet compete as a gladiator for fun?
– think of all the wars and plagues the gems have lived through. are you telling me rose just sat around in beach city for thousands of years without trying to help? there’s no way she lived through something like the black death without putting her healing powers to good use
like this is just some stuff right off the top of my head, the possibilities for this are endless?? And it’s canon that the gems immersed themselves in cultures of the time (hello, that pic of them at sea in maritime gear). PLEASE LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS
some more greek ones cause I’m so into it:
– opal with her bow and arrow was mistaken for Artemis more than once
– likewise rose for Demeter
– pearl makes the mistake of brandishing her spear in Athens, everyone decides it’s athena and chaos ensues
– garnet’s futurevision earns her a spot at the oracle of delphi for a while, the most chill pythia the temple of Apollo ever saw
– I’m not saying the gems hung out with sappho but also let’s be fucking real they totally hung out with sappho
– how many mythological monsters were actually just based on corrupted gems?
